With 15% ethanol gas, 1 gallon won't be enough
Those who purchase just a few gallons from motorcyclists to folks with lawn mowers could damage their engines and void their warranties. Hence the 4-gallon rule.
Chris Woodyard - USATODAY - September 22, 2012
Under a new rule, the EPA will require you to buy a minimum of four gallons of gas from any pump that sells E15, or gasoline that's 15% ethanol.
Ethanol is the controversial fuel additive made mostly from corn.
Most stations sell E10, or 10% ethanol. But the handful of stations that sell E15, which made its debut two months ago, generally dispense it from the same pump as E10. Problem is, anyone who fills up with E10 after an E15 buyer could get as much as a quart of residual E15, American Motorcycle Association spokesman Peter Terhorst told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
It's no big deal if you buy a lot of gas. But those who purchase just a few gallons from motorcyclists to folks with lawn mowers could damage their engines and void their warranties. Hence the 4-gallon rule.... [Read More]

It's crazy to use food for fuel when at the same time giving conservation the Bronx cheer.

This is just crazy!.. only electric lawnmowers should be allowed..
Before you guys start foaming at the mouth, does your lawnmower have a catalytic converter?.. I did my civic duty and covered the lawn with concrete years ago.

I really like my Craftsman electric plug in lawn mower, rechargeable hedge clippers and string trimmer.

Re: With 15% ethanol gas, 1 gallon won't be enough
Trying to fix a real techical problem with an unenforceable and stupid administrative control is about as dumb as it gets. What if you **can't** get 4 gallons out of the pump? Things happen. People can misjudge, vehicle evap systems can fail and prevent filling, gas pumps can be overly sensitive and not work with some cars, and the regulation could simply be ignored by people who neither understand the issue nor care whether or not the next guy gets screwed. What are they going to do? Program pumps to dump 4 gallons at once whether there is a tank under the nozzle or not? No.

Re: With 15% ethanol gas, 1 gallon won't be enough
^ OSHA, DOT and the EPA would go crazy over one of those. Don't you realize how dangerous those type of fuel pumps are.
What are people going do when they walk into the gas station with five dollars or less for gas and they have to tell them it is a four gallon minimum?
I saw a guy a few days ago lay down $3.93 in two one dollar bills and change for gas at a station just up the street from me.
I see a whole lot of people during the average week putting five, ten or twenty dollars of gas in their cars. So unless you have at least sixteen bucks in your pocket you're not getting gas for your car at one of the single hose pumps.

My 2012 Prius Plug-In says don't use more than 10% ethanol.
