All-new 3-door Kia pro_cee’d To Debut in Paris

2013 Kia Pro_cee’d – Pricing TBA

Kia will reveal another member of its second-generation cee’d family, the all-new pro_cee’d three-door hatch, at the upcoming Paris Auto Show later this month.

Like the all-new cee’d, the pro-cee’d was designed, engineered and will be manufactured in Europe exclusively for the European market.

Drivetrain(s)

Across most of Western Europe, the new cee’d will be available with a MPFI 1.4L and the 1.6L GDI we are all familiar with in the Rio preview and Accent review.

Also available will be the 1.6L VGT turbo diesel delivering 126 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque and mated to a manual transmission.

New cee’d models incorporating Kia’s EcoDynamics technologies, including ISG (Start/Stop), low-rolling resistance tires and an alternator management system (AMS), with this diesel engine achieve an NEDC combined rating of 63.6 mpgUS or approximately 51 mpgUS combined on our own EPA.

Coupled with the 1.6L GDI is an all-new Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The DCT delivers smooth gear shifts for effortless shifts while lowering fuel consumption.

Safety

The all-new Kia cee'd was awarded a maximum 5-Star crash test safety rating by Europe's EuroNCAP late last month.

The five-door hatch achieved high scores for Adult Occupant Protection (89%), Child Occupant Protection (88%) and Safety Assist equipment (86%).

Pro_cee’d

The new pro_cee’d features all the technical improvements made to the cee’d five-door and cee’d Sportswagon, with a more exuberant appearance that made its predecessor so popular.

In case you have not noticed, isn’t that the case for most Kia’s nowadays

BTW, the 5-door cee'd is a twin of the Hyundai i30. Both of the 5-door twins are sold in North America as the Kia Forte5 and the Hyundai Elantra GT.

Re: All-new 3-door Kia pro_cee’d To Debut in Paris

Hi Bruce:

Definitely a problem with the cee'd’s design. The high belt line and low slung roof designs are beginning to harm ingress/egress and drivability. The Rio5 was harmed in this respect whereas it does provide a reduced frontal area and smoother air flow for a double bump in aero efficiency.

Dan, while the Elantra GT was apparently built on the Kia Forte5 platform, the Forte5 is loaded with the previous generation drivetrain and equipment. The all-new 2014 Forte’ will be arriving soon and I suspect it will be offered with an updated hatch as well as the sedan form factor we have reported earlier.

Actual 2014 Forte Exterior Released

As the new K3 in Korea and Cerato across much of Asia, I saw the GDI tag on the rear trunk lid so I expect for the Asian markets they will receive the 1.6L GDI and possibly the MPFI 1.4L. What we receive here is still unknown but I am hopeful for an improved -- meaning more fuel efficient -- 1.6L GDI, GDI-T or possibly even a 1.8L GDI? We will know pretty soon?

Any idea if the Forte5 will be available with an MT this time around?

Hi Dan:

I do not know about the 5 but the sedan will.

Kia is working on an event drive with that vehicle but it will be spring before we know if they are going to follow through.

Perhaps, but the current Forte5 has a considerably more efficient 2.0L engine than than the Beta found in the Elantra Touring and previous Hyundais. I had been under the impression that it is already a GDI engine -- am I wrong about that?

Hi Dan:

The current 2.0 in the Forte5 is not GDI and the FE results of 26/36 mpgUS city/highway with the AT and 23/32 mpgUS city/highway with the stick are not that great Next spring we get the new Forte' and it is going to be a lot better although I do not know which current engine or new engine from the Hyundai development teams we will receive?
