The Perfect Shot…

The Perfect Shot…

Nissan provides a professional and a yet to be released 2013 Sentra to help us amateurs

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Sept. 12, 2012

What it takes for the perfect car shot.

Want a cover shot of a new car? According to the expert behind the Sentra’s media photos, it starts with timing, getting up early before the sun comes up, or staying around until just before the sun goes down. A recent photo shoot for Nissan's all-new 2013 Nissan Sentra started at 5 a.m. in the California desert because the photo crew wanted somewhere quiet, yet colorful.

According to long-time photographer Bruce Benedict, one of the most perfect locations to catch a great photo is at the top of a mountain, at sunrise, with an open sky in the background. Then, before the sun passes the horizon, with no reflections, and perfect sweet light, take your photo. Benedict also warns that getting a great shot might require the photographer to get a bit dirty because a low angle can deliver some great shots.

So if it's your first car, or one you just love more than others that you want to photograph, remember… timing is everything. The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset are considered sweet light. The perfect natural lighting. It's best to find a quiet colorful place, to avoid showing grey skies, and to get on the ground for a low angle. This just might be the recipe for the perfect picture.

What is your next car shot going to look like?

You have seen the following on our preview of the all new 2013 Sentra and now you know who and how it was shot… Of course a high end Canon DLSR with a multi-thousand dollar lens does not hurt either

2013 Nissan Sentra in all its future glory

Looks familiar, doesn't it? Maybe I cannot take them but I can pick em… As in right from the vid!

And my favorite:

Now where in the heck am I going to find a mountain in Chicago???

Re: The Perfect Shot…

Hi Herm:

The video and pic were of the same car in the exact same spot but probably two different cameras.

All in, they were gorgeous. In fact, I believe the Sentra media shots were the best since the Rio was shot in Austin last year.
