Giant Loop’s New 100% Waterproof Upgrades for Coyote and Great Basin Saddlebags

It is called Dry Pods and it keeps your gear both dry and organized.

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Sept. 8, 2012

The world record holding 2010 Yamaha WR250X equipped with Giant Loop’s revolutionary Great Basin Saddle and Fandango Tank Bags on top of the Bear Tooth in Southern Montana.

During the Adventure Touring Project Bike - X-Country at 100 + MPG ride, I was fortunate to be equipped with what can be arguably described as the best soft luggage in the business in the form of the Giant Loop Great Basin Saddle and Fandango Tank bags.

The reason why soft luggage is superior to hard cases is twofold. In case you are involved in a slow or high speed get off and most adventure riders will at some point be involved in the unfortunate, your chances of getting back up and riding away without having your lower leg broken by the hard luggage is vastly improved. Secondly, removing and carrying your luggage system cannot be any easier than what Giant Loop provides with the removal of a few straps and your soft luggage is now over your shoulder with little fuss.

Giant Loop is a small company that is in the business of continuously improving their Adventure Rider products with end user feedback guiding the upgrades. Last year they began selling a second harness for their fantastic Fandango Tank Bag in order to move your belongings from bike to bike in seconds instead of the bag and harness as a single unit.

In addition, last summer they expanded their lineup of bike friendly soft luggage to include all-new Dry bags with exterior hooks designed specifically to meet the needs of the Adventure rider.

Dry Pods

This fall they are introducing a 100% waterproof interior roll-top dry pod sets for their Coyote Saddlebag and Great Basin Saddlebags.

The Dry Pods are Made in the USA and constructed of 200-denier PTU coated Nylon with fully sealed seams. The three Coyote Dry Pods and five Great Basin Dry Pods keep gear organized and protected inside the saddlebags’ rugged, water resistant outer Bombshell. Both saddlebags will continue to include the standard stuff sacks and pods.

For more details, consider visiting their home page at Giant Loop or their “Go Light, Go Fast” blog.

A follow up to my Great Basin Saddlebag recommendation, here is a video overview by David Wachs, the individual who designed them in the following YouTube.

The Giant Loop gear is well thought out because the men designing the adventure gear are adventure riders themselves. Meaning it was designed for bike and rider touring the great outdoors whether that be down the block or around the world. The Great Basin or Coyote Saddle and especially the Fandango tank bag is an adventure rider’s must have and something I would not want to leave home without.

Re: Giant Loop’s New 100% Waterproof Upgrades for Coyote and Great Basin Saddlebags

I've got a Wolfman dry bag which does the job but it's a PIA to get in and out of. The Giant loop magnet-flap/zipper combo looks like a good idea ...for a price.

/even with the heat shields, I think I'd still be a little concerned about burning thru bags or straps.
