That is a lot of vehicle to be powered by a 123 HP engine?

2013 Ford Mondeo – 1.0L EcoBoost is but one of the engine options for this classy family sedan.
Ford’s next generation Mondeo for Europe will be equipped with the 1.0L EcoBoost engine, making it the largest-ever Ford vehicle to be fitted with such a small displacement engine.
Ford’s 1.0L EcoBoost outputs just 123 HP and 125 lb-ft. of torque (up to 148 lb-ft. of torque in “overboost” mode). The new Mondeo will probably come in at around 3,300 to 3,400 pounds.
The 1.0L I3 includes twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), a compact, low-inertia turbo that spins at 248,000rpm, direct fuel injection, an aluminum cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold, low friction piston coatings, low tension piston rings, low friction crank seals and a
cambelt-in-oil design. <-- Notice no chain?
Ford will reveal further details on the all new Mondeo later today at the Go Further brand event.
I really should know more about the upcoming Mondeo and hopefully readers here can fill me in as I have to be in Chaigo in < 2-hours. I am sure it will be offered with a 2.0L EcoBoost as it is here and probably even a 2.0L TDCi turbo diesel as well?
All told, while the small super dieses in the B and C-segments are slow as molasses in many cases, placing a low torque, low power engine in a midsize car whose segment is more attune to “get the hell out of my way” then “I am saving at the pump” is stretching the envelope a wee bit. It will be great theater to watch as the Focus with the 1.0L is selling very well in Europe whereas the Mondeo, we’ll have to wait and see.
