Toyota Providing a Few More Construction Jobs for Illinois

While a very local story, it is good news for those that will soon be employed by a world class company.

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Sept. 6, 2012

Aurora, IL -- Yesterday employees of the Chicago Regional Office of Toyota Motor Sales broke ground on a brand new and state-of-the-art $4.9 million training center in Aurora. The facility is part of a campus-wide building project for Toyota’s regional sales offices, which is located on Sequoia Drive in Aurora.

The new training center will be approximately 15,000 square feet in size and house three classrooms and 12 high-tech service bays. Although only a small project with scheduled completion scheduled for next summer, the center will be a key location to train employees of the 112 dealerships in the region. The Chicago Region encompasses sales and service operations in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Besides the training center, Toyota will also be investing an additional $1.9 million in renovations to the main office building on the automaker’s 50-acre campus.

There was no mention of new positions being created other than the short term construction jobs but I do have a request in for that detail.

Wow, they must be using mass transit contractors or else putting a few million of equipment in the facility. The median price of a 15k SF bulding in Chicagoland projects out to about $2 million according to this: http://www.illinoisbiz.biz/NR/rdonly...gCosts2011.pdf

Hi Rich:

Unfortunately there were no new hires with this expansion from my discussion with the Midwest rep yesterday.
