I did not know they “did not” have this program already in place?

An entire row of Gen-II’s primed to be Certified Used Toyota’s for the next generation of Prius buyers.
I saw this PR a few days back and questioned it since Toyota is “
THE” hybrid company and this would seem like a natural. With Toyota Hybrid sales making up almost 12% of total sales month on month in the US and rising in Canada, the following program should have probably been in place years earlier?
According to Toyota Canada, Canadians have purchased more than 69,000 Toyota Hybrids since the first Prius arrived in Canada in 2000. While only a small fraction compared to the volumes delivered in the US, Toyota has “Moved Forward” (paraphrasing a recent and highly successful advertising campaign) by expanding its Certified Used Vehicle program with a program enabling Canadians to buy previously-owned hybrids with maximum confidence.
In a prepared statement, Tony Wearing, Senior Managing Director, Toyota Canada said the following:

“Hybrids are as reliable, easy to own and drive so it’s natural to build on our program for certified pre-owned vehicles with this new initiative built around Toyota’s proven hybrid technology. Add in the ability to view Toyota dealer hybrid inventories and financing rates online, it’s never been easier to shop for the right hybrid vehicle.”

Toyota’s certified used vehicle programs are designed to provide Canadian’s with piece of mind, years of ownership satisfaction, and enhanced resale values.
“Every” Toyota Certified Used Vehicle includes a CarProof Vehicle History Report, receives a 127-point inspection plus extensive mechanical and appearance reconditioning. Certified vehicles also include a seven day/930 mile exchange privilege, a free oil/filter change, membership in Club Toyota plus a minimum of 12 months/12,400 mile powertrain and roadside assistance coverage according to the company’s release.
With regards to Toyota hybrids as certified used vehicles, they undergo a slightly more thorough inspection including a special 134-point inspection plan of the hybrid components. Toyota Certified Used Hybrid Vehicles are backed by Toyota’s comprehensive warranty honored at more than 1,400 Toyota Dealers in Canada and the United States, and includes Toyota’s eight-year/99,200 mile warranty on all hybrid components. That is huge on a used hybrid vehicle!
With the availability of the hatch, c, v and soon PHEV to our neighbors up North, Toyota Canada has declared 2012 to be the “Year of the Hybrid” in Canada. Now at the halfway point, Canadians have purchased 7,857 of the fuel saving marvels, a record that is just now beginning to show that Canadian’s are demanding fuel efficient alternatives. In July, Toyota Canada hybrid sales reached 1,183 or 8.4% of Toyota Canada’s total sales for a new July record. The Prius family saw 884 new owners (up 1,704.1%) and a new July record with the all-new Camry Hybrid sales up 609.4% to 227 vehicles sold. The large percentage gains had everything to do with a supply constrained Japan after their natural disaster while the sales records show true demand is real.
With new hybrid popularity gaining strength, it was only a matter of time the used hybrid market received the benefit of a Certified Used Hybrid program.
