Toyota Motorsport GmbH TMG EV P002 undergoing a three-day track test session at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France earlier this year.
With our prerace coverage of Toyota’s all-electric entry into the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb --
Pikes Peak to Host an All-Electric Shootout -- behind us, the results could not have been more pleasing for the Japanese auto giant. The prototype EV P002 has achieved a new milestone for all-electric racing by setting a new electric record in its climb to the clouds.
Driver Fumio Nutahara set a time of 10 minutes 15.380 seconds which broke the previous electric record (12mins 20.084secs) (
by more than two minutes!) setting a new record for an all-electric on the now fully asphalt 12.4 mile track. Nutahara’s time not only broke the previous electric record but gave him sixth place overall of all vehicle entries providing an impressive debut at Pikes Peak.
The TMG EV P002 has a top speed of 149 mph in Pikes Peak trim with combined maximum power of 469 HP available from its two EVO sourced axial flux motors.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb provided Toyota with the opportunity to prove the potential of electric powertrains in motorsport.
