Hyundai’s new Brazilian subcompact called HB20.
Hyundai Brazil revealed the name of the new B-segment that is being prepped for manufacture in Brazil starting this September. Here is the all-new HB20. Cool indeed
“HB” stands for “Hyundai Brazil” and “20” is the number used by Hyundai to identify, globally, models with this size of platform. The company released teaser pictures of HB20 that signal the continuation of Hyundai’s signature Fluidic Sculpture design language.
According to Hyundai Global PR, the South Korean automaker will being HB20 production next month at its plant in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil. The hatchback will reach showrooms on Oct. 10 with a 1.0L and 1.6L flex fuel versions. An automatic transmission will be available with the 1.6L variant. The HB family will also include a sedan and a compact CUV scheduled to reach showrooms sometime in 2013.
All models of the HB family were developed by a team of Brazilian and Korean engineers. The three models were exclusively developed for the Brazilian market and will be produced at Hyundai’s first plant in Brazil. Brazil is the seventh country to receive a Hyundai manufacturing plant outside of Korea and its investment was $600 million USD appears to have been well spent.
Hyundai Brazil has more than 1,000 Brazilian current full time employees and will increase that number to 2,000 by 2013 with the releases of the HB20.
