Karthikeyan Sundaram And Siddharth Philip - BLOOMBERG - July 22, 2012

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), the country’s largest automaker, locked out workers at a factory near New Delhi and ruled out restarting production until a probe is completed into rioting that led to the death of a manager.

The carmaker, majority owned by Suzuki Motor Corp. (7269), won’t import cars to make up for the loss of production at its Manesar factory, which accounts for about 40 percent of its total capacity, Chairman R.C. Bhargava told reporters in New Delhi yesterday. He didn’t say how long the investigation would take or when workers would be allowed to return to the plant. The latest production stoppage is the fourth in the past year at Manesar factory.

All 3,000 union workers at the plant will be charged with murder and attempted murder for the mob attack that caused the death of Awanish Kumar Dev, a human resources general manager, and at least 70 injuries, Indian police said July 19. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, one of the nation’s two largest business lobbies, said yesterday that the violence threatens India’s investment reputation. ... [Read More]

If their judicial system is anywhere close to being as "efficient" as our own (USA) , some of these workers will still be in court at the turn of the century.

Re: Maruti Suzuki Imposes Lockout at India Plant After Riot

Now that is CLASS WARFARE!
In the beginning of the Union Movement late 19th early 20th century this sort of thing was common in the USA.
The violence was usually initiated by the Company Thugs-Pinkertons and Company thugs.
It won't happen here again-there are too few jobs-Unions have been BROKEN everywhere- even where they aren't formally broken-they are in fact powerless.

Now if things got REALLY BAD- but the very affluent still were very affluent-LIVING LARGE
Things could get bad.
Some of it is already happening-Gated Communities,Hire off duty cops for details
Yeah we could degenerate into something like what much of south of the border has ALWAYS HAD.
Yeah the very affluent better start acting like Romney senior-not like Romney JR

The Republicans- bleating about "class warfare"-missing the point- it isn't just that YOU are Rich-it is that you are many many times richer than I am!!
Doesn't matter that folks are generally not starving in streets- if you have a CAR ELEVATOR?? and I don't even have a car??? 5 houses- no house, no health care
Yeah we had better fix the economy- USA we can be plenty violent-and we are MUCH MUCH better armed than Indians.
Historically it was always the Republicans that favored GUN CONTROL- to protect the rich.

We aren't India- but we better be careful-HUGE DIFFERENCES in income are POISON.
Greed isn't good-unless you want Class Warfare-
Everyone has to work- but HUGE differences in income-NOW MAINLY FROM FINANCIAL MANIPULATIONS-not from producing real goods services-are absolute POISON.

If we ever have hints of class warfare watch how quickly-and subtly-the Republicans back gun control-
Hmmm-I seem to be a bit pessimistic this AM!
Charlie
PS-Notice the guy who was killed was in Human Resources-worst job in the world-worse than debt collecting!!

Re: Maruti Suzuki Imposes Lockout at India Plant After Riot

Herm-
Right-the Rockerfeller Reps-and most of the Big Money Republicans are still of that type-
always secretly or not too secretly were pro gun control(Romney is really a Rockerfeller Rep-look at his somewhat liberal record as GOV of Mass) they are kinda bread and Circuses folks who don't really "feel" for less affluent-they just want they and theirs to stay very rich and safe-so they dole out funding to keep the underclasses "happy"
Gun Control was a way to control the poor folks who they fear/feared might get pissed.

Now that doesn't mean a "I feel your pain" Liberal-who also doles GOV funding to less fortunate-Cadillac Liberals- will do a good job.And they-those Dems-are also pro gun control for EXACTLY the same reason-they want theirs and their $$ to be safe from pissed off poor- we need the economy to turn around.

Charlie
PS Feeling pretty dark this am-preparing for battle with Medicare Medicaid to get wife Rituximab infusions for autoimmune problem-expecting lots of grief- $20,000 -not possible if they deny-
Getting pre-pissed-off!!
