GM June 2012 Sales Up 15.5%

Aging Silverado and Malibu are the General’s bread and butter sales for the month of June.

2013 Silverado – $22,195 to start and anywhere from a completely unacceptable 12 mpgUS city rating when equipped with the 6.2L V8 (that is not loaded or towing) all the way to a 22 mpgUS highway rating with the XFE.

The 2013 Silverado 1500 can haul equipment and a crew to a job site or tow a camper on a family vacation albeit a very expensive family vacation at that.

The full-size Silverado unfortunately continues to offer V8 power when a more powerful and efficient V6 would suffice.

Regarding trims and form factors, the Silverado 1500 offers a full lineup of pickups including the WT, LS, LT, XFE and LTZ models, as well as the unique Silverado 1500 Hybrid. Silverado 1500 models are available in three cab styles – regular, extended and crew cab – as well as three cargo box lengths: 5 foot 8 inches (short), 6 foot 6 inches (standard) and 8 foot (long).

GM June Sales

GM this morning released their June sales results indicating that they sold 248,750 vehicles in the US, up 15.5 percent compared to June of 2011 and the company’s highest sales since September 2008. All of its major brands reported double-digit increases in fact.

For the month, GM passenger car sales were up 12 percent year over year, thanks to a 32 percent increase in Chevrolet Malibu sales and a 21 percent increase in Buick LaCrosse sales.

Combined sales of all seven Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac crossovers were up 30 percent versus a year ago.

Truck sales were up 11 percent, with all pickup, van and SUV segments up year over year.

Retail deliveries were up 8 percent year over year. Fleet deliveries were up 36 percent versus a year ago due in part to the timing of customer deliveries. In July, fleet volumes and mix are expected be down month over month and year over year.

Sales of the Buick Verano were 4,091 in June, and have increased each month since the car launched in December 2011. Chevrolet Sonic sales were 6,785 units and it is the retail sales leader in its segment. The new Cadillac XTS began arriving in showrooms in June, and dealers delivered more than 750 vehicles. Over the course of 2012 and 2013, 70 percent of GM’s nameplates will be all-new or redesigned.

And the Volt vs. LEAF watch? The Volt dominated with 1,760 vs. 535 sold. The Volt with its recent PZEV status now allows HOV lane access in California and is selling better than before. While not a blockbuster, a Volt on the road beats 4 standard ICE cars on or off no matter which way you slice it.

Top 10 Sales Leaders - Items of note: Camry swapped places from 2 to 3 with the Chevrolet Silverado while the F-Series punched through the 50,000 mark for the fourth consecutive month. Malibu jumped from 7th to 3rd, Accord climbed one from 6th to 5th, Escape leapt from off the list last month to 6th this, the Civic fell from 4th to 7th, the Corolla fell from 5th to 8th, Fusion fell from 8th to 9th and RAM fell from 9th to 10th. The CR-V fell off the list by a few hundred vehicles.

Segment ranking items of note: In the B-Segment ranks, the Fit and Rio swapped positions while Yaris sales fell sharply. The C-Segment ranks did not change other than the Sentra jumping two places ahead of both the Mazda3 and Kia Forte. The D-Segment ranks saw the Accord swap places with the Malibu from 2nd to 3rd .
