Re: Sears Auto Center Service

I didn't know it was possible until it happened. Fortunately the jerky braking mostly went away when I loosened the nuts. That was an 1800-lb car. I should've mentioned that that incident did not happen at Sears.

My torque wrench had nothing to do with that story. My "three times" comment was based on the length of the wrench+pipe combination times my weight.

Re: Sears Auto Center Service

I got the 5 quart answer from the dealership when I asked for the price on a Mobil 1 synthetic oil change. Mobil 1 doesn't come in bulk there, like most places.

I've been trying to research motor oil. It seems hard to get a deffinative answer because Bob The Oil Guy isn't calling himself Bob The Oil Scientist. It does seem like Bob is most likely to be correct source about today's motor oil. The major problem I have is that when people reference him on their internet forum posts they do so by authority and not by comparing his ideas to science that isn't from the staff of oil companies and such. I believe, at this juncture, 0w20 seems like it is the best oil for all new economy cars that don't have a lot of ring wear. My recent oil change a week ago was with Mobil 1 5w20; I'm interested in seeing how it might effect my car's mpg. If there is any improvement I would guess it would come from the start-up to operating temp time since the current synthetic is supposed to be less viscous(freer flowing) then the 5w20 conventional oil I was using.

Re: Sears Auto Center Service

So I contacted Sears as requested by their representative in a previous reply. The situation was taken care of in a satisfactory manor. I am pleased by their response. I guess our hypermiling community has power when making posts about some large automotive type corporations. Maybe we should creat a separate forum category to address problem, and positive service as well.

Re: Sears Auto Center Service

Thats a good finish by Sears.

The Chevy Cruze uses a refillable insert type oil filter, accessible from the top.. I imagine that refill will be dripping oil all over the place.

Re: Sears Auto Center Service

that is good news

in my line of work I'd just as soon a dissastisfied customer give a chance to make things right- rather than complain where it won't do any good

our Regal is the same type filter, from the top. It's not all that bad. Set an old rag around the base of the housing.

Re: Sears Auto Center Service

It's a poor design if removing the filter results in oil getting distributed all over the engine. And then the work around of catching it at the base with an absorbent towel likely results in more oil unrecyled, ending up in a landfill.

Re: Sears Auto Center Service

You use the oil soaked rags to start a fire, to burn your leaves, old tires etc.
