Re: Hello and, what can I expect?
I would avoid the potholes too. Some UK roads are rubbish and find that after a few times driving on a particular route I remember where they are and have already moved over the road to avoid each one before I get there. Running the tyres at higher psi you definitely feel them more!
I'd much rather drive for 4 to 5 weeks before filling up than make twice as many visits.

Re: Hello and, what can I expect?
You'd have to be going very slowly on a very bad road to zig-zag enough dodging potholes to add measurable distance.
Water weighs a bit over 8 lb/gallon, but gasoline is considerably less dense. You could only save roughly 30 pounds by half-filling a smallish car, and then only half the time (since the last half of a fully filled tank would be the same).

4-5 weeks! I wish! Even brimming it would give me about 12 days at the most.
I'm at 'max sidewall' now and 55 mph and so far (200 miles) am showing 36mpg.
I'm going to try and keep it at that level, then look for a way to hit the magic 40!

I make it to be 86lbs for a 12 imperial gallon tank, and about 3.5% of the unladen weight of my vehicle.
I guess the ideal would be to store fuel at home and only carry enough to get back

That about right. By half-filling you'd theoretically save 43 pounds during the first half-tank, and nothing during the second half-tank (which would be the same as the second half of a complete fill). I suspect that small weight savings wouldn't save as much fuel as using the time saved by refueling less often to drive a little slower.
