Subaru May 2012 Sales Up 48.4%
Solid Outback, Impreza and Forester sales drive Subaru’s May results with easy comparison to last years Japan earthquake constrained sales results.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - June 1, 2012
2012 Subaru Impreza – $17,495 to start (as a sedan) and a 27/36 mpgUS city/highway rating make for an impressive AWD choice.
The fourth-generation 2012 Impreza four-door and five-door features more dynamic designs and an all-new efficient powertrain. The 2012 Impreza models offer a 36-percent improvement in EPA combined fuel economy (automatic transmission) over the previous versions, along with increased room, greater agility and a higher level of refinement.
New amenities, high-line trim levels, infotainment technology and higher-grade interior materials contribute to a more rewarding driving and ownership experience in the 2012 Impreza.
Every 2012 Impreza is equipped as standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Powered by an all-new 148HP 2.0L Boxer engine, the 2012 Impreza comes with a choice of a five-speed manual transmission or the enhanced, second-generation Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). The 2012 Impreza offers the highest fuel economy of any all-wheel drive car in America when equipped with the CVT.
Offered in base, Premium, Sport Premium, Limited and Sport Limited models, the 2012 Impreza emphasizes its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive performance.
The combination of a longer wheelbase and redesigned door and roof trim and front seats yields gains in passenger and cargo room for the 2012 Impreza. The wheelbase is now 104.1 inches, almost an inch longer than the previous generation Impreza. Thanks to redesigned door panels, the 2012 Impreza offers increased hip and shoulder room.
Rear seat passengers gain nearly two inches of legroom. Sedan trunk room and five-door cargo room are both increased, and the five-door now provides a completely flat load floor with the standard 65/35 split rear seatbacks folded.
Subaru’s May 2012 Sales Overview
Subaru reported record sales for May 2012 of 29,724 vehicles, a 48 percent gain over May 2011. The company also reported year-to-date sales of 136,602, a 22 percent gain over prior year.
The all-new Impreza continues to achieve triple-digit sales gains. May Impreza sales are up more than 235 percent over May 2011; year-to-date sales represent a 170 percent gain over 2011.
The Outback lead all sales with 9,192 units sold, up 9%. Forester sales were up an impressive 41% with 7,323 vehicles reaching new drives last month.

Re: Subaru May 2012 Sales Up 48.4%
I'm not surprised by this. New Imprezas are everywhere I look in Portland. Subaru has hit a home run with this one.

Re: Subaru May 2012 Sales Up 48.4%
My parents just bought an Outback. Its not my cup of tea, but the CVT isn't nearly as bad of an experience as I thought it would be. Sure is better than the 4-speed auto I had in my Saabaru.
