New Grads Need a Job? Hyundai Has a Proposal for You
The future of PR will be digital and you are invited.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - May 26, 2012
Rob, Elizabeth and Chelsea want to see your work as Hyundai looks for their next interns exclusively via Social Media.
Hyundai’s hiring!
In an interesting release, Hyundai is setting aside head hunters, classified listings and career coaches, and is instead turning to social media as it launches its paid internship program. Two of the internship positions available with Hyundai Motor America’s PR and Marketing teams will be filled exclusively through the company’s social media channels. Applicants must submit a video resume via Twitter using the hash tag #HireMeHyundai. Details and an introduction video from the team can be found on Hyundai’s blog, HyundaiLikeSunday.
Hyundai’s six-month internship program is specifically designed for recent bachelor’s degree college graduate with a strong interest in the automotive industry. Upon successful completion of the program, which includes valuable training, mentoring and networking opportunities within the company, candidates have the enhanced opportunity to be hired into a full-time Hyundai position.
Besides the two interns being recruited via social media, other openings will be filled in more traditional ways. Hyundai is focusing on Southern California universities in order to engage applicants, as the interns will work at Hyundai’s national headquarters in Costa Mesa, CA.
For more information on these internship positions, visit Hyundai’s career page.
Is that cool or what This is the new face of PR and these team members will soon be known as the "Tip of the sword".

It's good to to see that foreign companies are hiring since American companies apparently plan on never hiring again.

Do you think that it's a bad long-term decision?

It is a terrible long-term decision. As fuel prices continue to trend upward, the "cheap labor" factor will be offset by vastly higher transportation costs.

My younger son, the EE who graduated two weeks ago, is starting at Caterpillar in a week.
HP's problems probably worked their way down from the top. It seems likely that the corporate fat cat fight they had over the past few years deprived the company of the leadership it needed to thrive.

Re: New Grads Need a Job? Hyundai Has a Proposal for You
Hi All:
I met the "Top Pick" of the search just two weeks ago in Costa Mesa, CA and she is every bit as eager to show the world she has arrived as her first public reply from within the growing Hyundai PR organization.
Meet Mary Dagher and in her own words, "One Month Later…"
Mary Dagher - August 14, 2012
Ever wondered what happened to the #HireMeHyundai intern search? Tada, here I am! Hello Hyundai Like Sunday readers, my name is Mary Dagher and I am the newest addition to the public relations team of Hyundai Motor America. In case you haven’t heard of Hyundai’s newest college graduate internship program, allow me to fill you in. The six-month program takes on a different approach from your typical internship. For one, you must be a recent college graduate willing to commit to a 40-hour-a-week paid (YEH!) position with the opportunity to be hired at the end of the program. The coolest part of the application process was tweeting a one-minute “elevator pitch” style video via hashtag #HireMeHyundai; talk about unique and forward thinking!
Before we jump into the good stuff, I figured I’d give you a glimpse of my background. I graduated this past spring from California State University, Fullerton, with a degree in Communications, emphasis in public relations. During my final year of college, I interned with the public relations departments at TMZ, Warner Bros. Records and E! Entertainment, all giving me a better insight into the PR world. I am a strong believer in internships (hey, I’m on my fourth one!) because not only do you learn valuable skills, but nowadays, with a competitive job market, it is crucial to have a solid resume.
The past 30 days at Hyundai have proven to be exciting and educational. One highlight in particular includes visiting our local port and understanding how cars are processed at arrival. In addition, I got to visit our nearby design and technical center where I learned about the developmental stages of our future and current models. With this position, a lot of my focus has been on social media, including re-vamping our Instagram and Pinterest pages – I hope you’ll take a look since my job review depends on it…. I have always been a social media junkie and being able to incorporate it with my job truly has been exciting and rewarding. Other tasks I have taken on include assisting with press fleet management and developing and tracking media reports and mentions.
Overall, my first month has been extremely rewarding and educational. Whether it’s from learning about social media strategies, press fleet management or meeting new people, I am excited to learn and grow with Hyundai and the PR department. Here’s to the beginning of a wonderful career!
Welcome aboard Mary and I am sure you will fit in just fine with the hard working folks within Hyundai PR.
