Father dies shielding family in car from drunk in pickup

...as Price lay dying in the driver's seat, it was apparent he tried to shield his passenger from the brutal impact of the crash.

Kendra Lyn - MSNBC - May 25, 2012

He died for his family no less heroic than those that died for their country. --Ed.

A man is charged with intoxication manslaughter after a violent car crash overnight Wednesday killed a man and sent a woman and baby to the hospital.

Police said the driver of a pickup truck, Mathew Moore, 26, ran a red light and hit the victim’s car. It happened at the intersection of Ervay Street and Corinth Street, just south of Downtown Dallas around 11:40 p.m.

Police said the woman, 20-year-old KelliLynne Seamen, of Mesquite, is in serious condition, though she and her 7-month-old child are expected to survive. The man driving the car, 25-year-old Jeremy Price, of Mesquite, did not survive. An ambulance rushed him to Parkland Hospital where he died a short time later.... [Read More]

Re: Father dies shielding family in car from drunk in pickup

I am a probation agent and I can tell you that it is incredibly depressing and frustrating how the criminal justice system treats drunk drivers. If you murder someone with a gun, you may et 30 years in jail and usually not less than ten. If you murder someone with a car because you are drunk, the Court usually puts the offender on 18 months of probation and makes the person have an interlockndevice installed in the car. The disparity is simply appalling simce drinking and driving is actually more premeditated than pulling thentrigger of a gun.

I'm going to enjoy hearing the defense explaining away the fight.
