Mazda April 2012 Sales up 4.2%
2s down, 3s flat and the all-new CX-5 makes the company last month.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - May 1, 2012
2013 Mazda CX-5 - $20,695 to start, 103.8 cu. ft. of passenger volume, 34.1 cu. ft. of cargo volume and a 26/35 mpgUS city/highway rating when equipped with the slick shifting 6-speed MT? The rest of the large Crossover universe has a ways to go to match this beauty.
Fresh off the heels of a WardsAutos “10 Best Interior Award” the 35 mpgUS rated CX-5 is providing its owners with something else. That is “Value”. Cars are getting so good that it is no surprise to see B, C and D-segments achieving 35 to 40 mpgUS highway ratings. What a surprise it was when a larger Crossover was reported to have achieved the same. We are talking ratings as good as or better than any non-hybrid or diesel in the entire D-segment!
To see a vehicle the size of the CX-5 achieve such a high fuel economy rating is a pleasant surprise and thankfully instead of chasing higher HP ratings, Mazda decided 155 HP is plenty while providing its customers a lot less pain at the pump. Let the boy racer manufacturers continue to throw technology at the performance figure while achieving smaller gains in fuel economy. We’ll take more than enough and a lot more savings over the long haul any day of the week.
Mazda’s April 2012 Sales Results
Mazda earlier today reported its April U.S. sales of 21,506 vehicles, representing an increase of 4.2 percent versus last year. This is the best April sales month for Mazda since 2008. On a calendar year-to-date basis, Mazda's sales are up 21.5 percent with 103,529 vehicles sold.
Mazda Sales Highlights
Not since 1994 has Mazda reached 100,000 vehicle sales by May 1.
The 2013 Mazda CX-5 with the 155 HP 2.0L SKYATIC tech is already a popular choice. In just its second full month of sales, 3,521 vehicles were sold.
Rounding out April sales for the North American market, Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported its April sales of 1,849 vehicles, down 15.0 percent versus April of last year.

Re: Mazda April 2012 Sales up 4.2%
Hi 50 mpg:
51.1 mpgUS on the NEDC so maybe 42 mpgUS combined here with the FWD and the 6-speed MT? Mazda has said spring availability for Europe which should be about now? In Japan with the i-Stop, the numbers are ridiculous at 47 mpgUS combined on the 10-15 and 43.75 mpgUS on the JC-08.
An interesting point about the 2.0L SKYATIV-G engine in the CX-5 vs. the same engine with the same 155 HP output in 3. The CX-5’s 2.0L uses a slightly higher compression ratio than the SKYATIV G in the 3 we drove last winter at 13.0:1 vs. 12.0:1 for some reason?

Re: Mazda April 2012 Sales up 4.2%
I was kinda of excited about the CX-5. But MT is only available on base trim, and the base trim is only available in THREE colors.

The skyativ headers couldn't fit under hood in the older 3 body. They had to lower the compression without them. The redesigned 3 will have 13.0:1 compression.
