ethanol free fuel - who uses it

I see on line that the city to the west of me has a station with ethanol free fuel. Don't know the price yet, but may do a drive by if I have the time tomorrow. I'll be passing thru on the eway, but may or may not be lazy and not want to go thru town.

Is there a big enough difference in economy and performance to go thru the trouble to get it?

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

On my Escape hybrid its a difference of 5-8 MPG between E10 and E0. In March 2011 I took my K1500 to Florida with 1,000 pounds of cargo. I ran on E10 and got 15-16 MPG. Last month I made the same trip with the same cargo and looked online to plan E0 fuel stops ahead of time. On the recent trip I averaged 18-20 MPG. E0 is well worth trying. You can check stations online at www.pure-gas.org

Should be about 3% on modern vehicles, near 0% on others.
3% would be worth about 12 cents per gallon in the $4/gallon neighborhood.

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

Ignoring the mileage benefits, my vintage Honda engine runs better (enters and exits lean burn more smoothly) on E0, so I use it in the Civic whenever possible. Due to the longer storage life and the lack of hydrophilic properties of E0, I also prefer to use it in vehicles like my F150 that is rarely driven. I also use E0 in all of my small engines, especially 2-cycle (chainsaw, mowers, outboard, etc.) since they run much better and require fewer trips to the repair shop when run on E0, and the ones that are run infrequently don't have water accumulation problems (from the high summer relative humidity) in their gas tanks. Fortunately there is a local gas station that offers both E10, and for an additional 20 cents/gal, E0.

I use E10 because that's all they sell in my area. My mileage is down about 3% from it. I use Sta-bil in my gas cans and small engines but usually not in the car.

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

Do you use the regular stabil, or the ethanol stabil?

Was getting oil for the xB and saw stabil has a additive for ethanol blend fuel. Anyone use it?

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

anything carburated = use E0, and buy stabil by the gallon. I also use liberal amounts of MMO or any 2-stroke oil I have laying around.. I feel a 100:1 or 150:1 mix is not going to hurt anything. Fuel systems in boats and lawnmowers are not sealed, any alcohol will be bad news. Its time to use automotive type sealed systems in all gasoline using devices.

Both E0 (for boats, more expensive) and E85 are available in Miami.. but E85 is becoming a pain to get.

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

My scangauge fuel adjustment was only 2% when I could get E0, now with E10 it's at 8% so I see a 5-6% difference.

I see there is a gas station in Longmont that has E0 but it is also reported at the pure gas site that it is often out there. I prefer to get my $0.80-$1.00 per gallon discount at the Safeway station instead from grocery purchase points.

??
My carburetor has been perfectly happy guzzling E10, so far. I'd be afraid of E15, though.
