Hm. A stilt is like a gearing change for your legs to make them more efficient. I've never thought it like this before.
Seems like a very good thing to me. What kind of walking speed they are good for? I walk quite fast, but my problem with walking is speed, but I hate running, it feels incredibly inefficient (very tiring compared to walking, on a different order of magnitude, but doesn't give that much extra speed). This is why I like to use a bicycle on shorter distances. Stilts could be a very simple and lightweight solution to this very problem
edit. those spring stilts look like the devices on Chell's (protagonist of Portal games) feet, but I hardly think they can protect me when falling off a 20-story building

Re: Week of March 19th - March 25th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.87)
Some errands today averaged in the mid-40s. I was up to 60 MPG on the way home, but there are a number of lights near home that are quite difficult to time, and I got caught by all of them. I parked with just under 50 showing.

Finally some FE friendly temps and maybe a bit of a tail wind this morning. First segment of the day 71.4 mpg/31 miles.
Hope things are getting better Dennis.

Re : Week of March 19th - March 25th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.87)
Thanks Bob.
The highest alert level has been canceled and city policemen doesn't have their guns anymore during daytime, so it seams thinks are better now, but the how and why may never be clear.
Alvaro, stilts do permit to go faster, we could run 2x10km (2x6mi) under 2 hours rather easily and most of us were under 14 years old. Stilts may be more tiring as you have to lift one of them at each step, but 1.2m (3feet 11inches - under the feet) stilts aren't so heavy, the 2.0m (6feet 6inches) one were much heavier and were used only to walk.
Except dancing (in a folkloric group), we were also playing soccer with stilts. Of course falling and walking are the 1st thing you learn until it's wired into your reptilian brain. I remember some fall, I could see me falling in slow motion. I never hurt myself and I only saw one people hurt itself : he fall on his wrist.
Denis.

Took the older two to youth group last night. Soon it will be too hot to take them in my no-AC car.
90.4 / 8.9 mi / 84F - going there
77.8 / 8.9 / 77F - back home
Saved 1/2 gallon and $1.90 instead of taking the Ody.

Re: Week of March 19th - March 25th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.87)
Andrew, does your kids have fun in your car while you are driving ?
Mine likes to see no arrow on the MFD while I'm driving and to tell me engines are off. He understood that I have 2 engines that can be off while his mother has only 1 that can't be off
Already with the Mégane he knew that between pulses I was switching off the engine, but didn't liked that as the kill switch was noisy. Now he prefers the Prius, but because it has 2 engines.
Denis.

They make more comments about speed. Slow here, fast there, hold on for the corners... Also, why do you drive this route when Mommy drives the other route? (straight 55 mph is great for the auto Ody, winding slower route is better for my Civic.)

Since the new week has not been posted I will put this here.
48.8/55 miles to school this morning @ 30F. I've had better trips in worse conditions and I don't know what happened this morning.

Week of March 26th - April 1st, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.92)
It's the last week of March! The national average for a gallon of regular gas has increased by 5 cents over the cost last Monday.
I'm away on vacation (my son was Baptized yesterday ) so no commuting for me.
I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
