Cosmic justice

The first six miles of my commute are on a two-lane highway zoned to 35-40mph. There are just three short passing zones in the middle, then two traffic lights, the second one at the interchange where the highway crosses I-95.

A sedan with four older folks in it was tailing me today in the 40mph zone, so I narrowed my P&G range to 37-42mph to avoid annoying them too much, kept to the right, and prayed they would pass me. Finally on the final passing zone they did, but near the end of the zone the Nissan Murano (surely one of the more garish SUV's!) behind them decided to pass me too. Unfortunately, a car at side road junction ahead turned into the oncoming lane and had to evade the Murano by swerving onto the shoulder. I tried not to get angry and got back onto The Program.

For once cosmic justice was in effect. The first light was red for them but went green soon enough before I got there that I didn't have to slow at all. The second light was also red, and three cars were waiting at it, so the sedan and Murano ended up stacked at #4 and #5. But the right turn lane for the interstate onramp was empty, and as I coasted into it the light went green - perfect timing, sheer luck!!

Made sure to beep the horn and wave at the Murano as I went by, "You just risked an accident for nothing!"

Oh, and my trip average as I got on the I-95 was 71mpg and climbed to 85mpg by the time I reached work. An unusually good day.

Re: Cosmic justice

I love when things like that happen. Karma, baby.
