Honda’s 1.6L iDTEC Revealed

If only …

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/501/2013_Honda_Civic1_6L_i-DTEC.jpg
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - March 6, 2012

European Civic 5-door gets the all-new 1.6L iDTEC.

The just revealed all-new 1.6L iDTEC engine is the first drive train from Honda's new Earth Dreams Technology engine series to be introduced into Europe. It will be manufactured at Honda's UK manufacturing facility beginning at the end of this year.

And one thing we know about Honda engines and drivetrains, throw the EPA, NEDC, TCI or Australian test cycles out the window because this is going to be smoking hot at skipping the pumps.

According to Honda, an application of new high-strength material in the cylinder head has enabled Honda to deliver the world's lightest aluminum open deck 1.6L turbo diesel engine.

The lightweight characteristic along with the compact high-efficiency turbocharger enhance responsiveness and ensure the car will offer a class-leading balance of fuel economy and performance.

1.6L turbo diesel specifications:
  • Displacement – 1,596 cc
  • Max Power – 118 HP@4,000rpm
  • Max Torque – 221 lb-ft@2,000rpm
  • CO2 - 95g/km

Re: Honda’s 1.6L iDTEC Revealed

Let's hope that the Prius c finishes off Honda's NA hybrid market and forces them to make a move in a different area.

Re: Honda’s 1.6L iDTEC Revealed

That's pretty good on the CO2 emissions compared to the Focus and Golf at 105-110g/km for their 1.6L diesels.

That's pretty amazing from a 1.6, my 2.2 has 251 lb-ft @ 2000.

It's a shame that car isn't sold in the USA. With that styling, Millenials would love it here in the Land of the Free.
