Toyota Hybrid Sales Gaining Ground in Europe

400,000th Toyota Hybrid sold in the UK.

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Jan 27, 2012

A Brit built Auris Hybrid from Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire was the 400,000th hybrid delivered in Europe. The vehicle was handed over to Valentine Nkwocha, a company car driver for a Belgian IT company.

The Auris Hybrid is Toyota’s first to be built in Europe and has been manufactured at Burnaston since 2010.

European’s are embracing Toyota’s hybrid technology to the tune of 10% of the company’s total overall vehicle sales across the entire continent.

Tony Walker, Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK:
Quote:
“It is more good news for TMUK, following on from the recent announcement that Burnaston will receive significant further investment to build a new generation of Toyota C-segment hatchbacks – including a hybrid version.”
Interesting statement is it not?

Worldwide cumulative sales of Toyota’s hybrid vehicles have now reached 3.5 million vehicles and this is just the beginning. In Europe just like North America, Toyota will be introducing seven-seat Prius+ (recently available 5-passenger Prius v here), Prius PHEV and a Yaris hybrid (the upcoming c here in the US).

Re: Toyota Hybrid Sales Gaining Ground in Europe

Well, the statement just says they're going to update the Auris and Auris Hybrid. That's a good sign, since a C segment update means a possibility of a C segment update here.
