Fuel efficient route planner?

Hello,

I am trying to increase my fuel economy on top of my already conscious techniques. So I started searching around the internet that for a site or service that can plan my destinations in a fuel efficient way. With no luck, I turned here. Does anybody know of such a service?

Thank you.

Re: Fuel efficient route planner?

When planning a route on my TomTom GPS one of the options for route planning is "Eco Route"

My Garmin also has that option.

I still like my DeLorme Street Atlas Mapping software better.

I have a Garmin, but I can't find that option... is it something you have to buy or something? I'm very interested in this.

I have a 1490 NUVI,

Click on Tools
Click on Settings
Click on Navigation
Click on Route preference

It will give you these options.

1, Faster Time
2, Shorter Distance
3. Less Fuel
4. Off Road

Re: Fuel efficient route planner?

I'm considering a new GPS. I'm learning towards the Garmin Nuvi line with ecoroute. One thing I am wondering is if I can pre-plan a route and adjust it based on whatever criteria I want. I spend a lot of time on Google maps making routes and I love being able to adjust to take the route I want. Ideally, I'd like to be able to import routes from Google maps to a GPS.

Re: Fuel efficient route planner?

Hi All:

Be careful with the routing products as the algorithms do not know how you drive, do not know the best roads for the best FE, have no clue about the differences from vehicle to vehicle and in many cases can take you into some very strange areas…

The following are 4 examples of Eco-Routing while on the Yamaha WR250X last summer…

This is only 4 “Eco-routes” of maybe 8 to 10 that were even worse. All were anything but “Eco”.

You can move Google maps around between Point A and B and you know the terrain and car you drive. Choose from your own routing choices and select the one that consumes the least fuel. This does not necessarily mean the highest fuel economy either.

Don't forget the Goat Trail it took you on, on your way to Pittsburgh from New York.

Re: Fuel efficient route planner?

Hi Al:

I wish I had a picture of that off-road 10% grade up and back down the lengthy dirt trail but it was in the middle of the night making it even worse

The top picture is another one of those that had me shaking my head. The gravel road was bad enough but climbing that hill up ahead was all dirt where a Bulldozer carved a path up, through and over. And that too was an ECO route! A car would have never made it.

Just be careful with “Eco” routing is all I can add.

Wayne
