1000th iMiEV Delivered to Norway

It’s a small start but a start nonetheless.

The European iMiEV with a std. 230V charger input is standard fare. Too bad US households do not rely on 230/240V circuitry from every outlet.

The i-MiEV is a BEV that emits much lower CO2 amounts than an equivalent sized gasoline or diesel powered automobile. In addition, the 16 kWh Li-Ion batteries can be charged in less than 6-hours on a 240V circuit providing a 60 + mile range and do so for < $2.00. On an mpg/USD$ basis, that is the equivalent of almost 120 mpg.

The iMiEV can be charged from either a 120 or 240V circuit using the onboard charger.

Mitsubishi announced the delivery of Norway's 1,000th i-MiEV battery electric vehicle (BEV). The ceremony to celebrate the delivery of the 1,000th i-MiEV was held in Oslo on December 5 with participation of Mr. Erik Solheim, Norway's Minister of Environment and Development.

In Norway, electric car purchasers receive substantial incentives while installation of charging infrastructure is spreading fast. Since its launch in Norway in January of this year, the i-MiEV has maintained the top spot in total sales volume of compact (A-segment) vehicles, including gasoline vehicles, proof that the i-MiEV is a very much a practical vehicle that can serve the demands of the Norwegian consumer.

While 1,000 vehicles delivered over an 11-month period does not mean success, it does mean interest which in some case is enough to kick the tires and light the fires of the general consumer.

That is just amazing, Norway must have some amazing EV incentives.

And enough demand to bolster it....

I have a suspicion that you'd have a larger number of dead N. Americans if each wall plug pushed that much potential...
Hooking up a dedicated 220 volt line isn't that difficult in most homes but installing one in the driveway can get pricey.

Watts are watts and I don't believe a "bedroom" 220V outlet in Norway is going to deliver any more power than a 120V 60Hz outlet found where that is the standard.

To get full output power out of the charger you are going to need to put it on a higher wattage capable circuit, like a larger appliance circuit. Certainly not available in ever outlet even in Norway. You don't want it to be.

Re: 1000th iMiEV Delivered to Norway

I too would be surprised if standard Euro outlets are bigger than 15-20A. Also, I won't worry about dead Americans, just like you don't hear about lots of dead Europeans ... I believe the potential to ground (110-120V) is the same on a 230/240V Euro circuit as on one of our 110/120V circuits. IIRC they just don't neutral as one of the poles of the circuit as we do. The potential across the poles is of course double, but most electrical accidents involve shorts to ground.

As for the i-MIEV, saw my first one today, on a car transporter.

Re: 1000th iMiEV Delivered to Norway

I was offered the occasion to perform 2 'maximum range drives with less than one full battery charge' by MITSUBISHI Switzerland. In October (on a 62°F day) I did a 106 mile loop with 3300 ft altitude gain/loss. A month later (on a 40°F day) I squeezed out the battery juice a little more and got 109 miles (altitude gain/loss: 2500 ft). Average speed on both rides was close to 30 mph (top speed 50 mph). The drives were done on rural roads and in suburb areas. MITSUBISHI claims a practical range of 50 - 70 miles (New European Driving Cycle: 93 miles)

Re: 1000th iMiEV Delivered to Norway

106 miles is plenty for city driving.. no penalty from a cold engine starting for short trips.

7.12 miles/kwh is very good, if we assume Mitsubishi allows 93% battery usage under duress.
