Re: sig test

Put the new gas tank in. Put in 5 gallons in the garage. Drove it around doing some errands. Stop at the gas station to fill up. Got in another 8.5 gallons, so 13-13.5 out of 17 and the thing is leaking. so out it comes again. I think the big o ring isn't sealed right.

Re: sig test

Well that stinks! Sorry to hear about the leak. Hopefully it is something that can be fixed quickly?

Re: sig test

The big O ring where the gas pick up line thingy is (think fuel pump on newer vehicles) was the wrong size. About a 1/4 inch too big.

Get a new oring, droped + reinstalled the tank. Put 5 gallons in. will try to top off tomorrow

Re: sig test

new seal did the trick. Filled it up, no leaks.

One thing I've noticed in the little bit Ive driven this truck...

I had a 1991 Mitsubishi p/u truck a few years ago. Bought it in Texas and drug it back here to MI. the tires were dry rotted, so I put new ones on it. I cant remember the size & brand, but knowing me and tires they weren't cheapos. I do seem to remember they took 44 psi air pressure, and they were a bit wider than stock

The Mistu had 4cyl, gas, 5 speed, 2wd and iirc no power steering.
The ranger I have now is the same 4cyl, 5sp, 2wd, no pwr steering, but someone put new cheapo tires on it.

I could get off the highway in the Mitsu, get up to speed (55) and at one point (at a sign so I know its the same spot) I could go into N and coast over a mile to the street I needed to turn on. Speed Limit would slowly drop from 55 to 45 to 35 and the Mitsu would coast all the way to my turn, and further if I was continuing into town.

The ranger wont coast half that.

Only thing I can think of is the cheapo tires - they take 35psi and are inflated to that. Alinement seems straight, no brake drag, I even changed the tranny and read end fluids over to synthetic when I got this. Something I didnt touch on the Mitsu.

Anything else I should look at?

Why'd I sell that MitsuI liked that little truck...

Re: sig test

First fill up with the non leaking gas tank.

133.2 miles. 6.032 gallons 22.08 mpg.

Haha, gas gauge isnt very accurate. 17 gallon tank. Stayed on F for 100 miles, then in the next 25 or so dropped to under 3/4

Not too bad for a free 23 year old truck I guess. Was hoping for better, maybe next time. I did have the coolant heater install on this fillup, and had to idle it a couple times to get the air out of system. Tried to drive it to warm it up, FAIL. Got close to overheating so I went back to the shop and let it cool down, then idled it to warm back up.

Edit: this tank was 2 round trips to Jackson,MI, about 15 miles on the highway each way and not breaking 60mph. If you see this truck on the road its clear that it wont be moving very fast the rest was a mix of small town and country road driving. City I live in is 8000 population, not much traffic around here.

Re: sig test

What happened to the #s in my mileage boxes? They were there last night when I entered them, they showed in my Sig. This morning they're gone!
Haha I get a do-over.
