2013 Hyundai Elantra 2-Door Coupe – Same Great Taste, Less Filling
I cannot wait to see and hear the details
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Nov. 6, 2011
2012 Hyundai Elantra Coupe – Possibly < $17K delivered. Limited Shown
While I have heard about it, I have not seen it or been privy to any of the details.
During a view of the NHTSA’s Safercar.gov site this morning, I checked to see if the 11/12 Hyundai Elantra had been tested yet and while it was not, there was a new addition to the list that caught my attention.
2012 Hyundai Elantra 2 DR FWD
While details are non-existent, we can deduce what some of the 2-door coupe’s specs may be.
Let us begin with the same MPFI 1.8L providing 148 HP and 131 lb-ft. of torque, the same fluidic sculpture both inside and out, possibly Hyundai’s BlueLink infotainment system as standard equipment and an even lower price tag from the Elantra’s current $17,205 base including the Comfort package and D&H.
Looking at the 2012 Civic LX specs, the 2-door Coupe weighs 24 pounds less than the 4-door and a $200 lower cost.
Interpolating, the Elantra 2-door coupe should weigh in at around 2,635 pounds and come in at just under $17K incl. D&H. Of course there is the rumor of a 1.8L GDI but that will probably be a 2013 MMY refresh update?
Just something to think about before the mid model year refresh arrives in 2013 which many of you are going to be surprised by.

Hyundai gets more and more appealing. An Elantra coupe should have quite a nice profile.

Sounds nice, and I'm sure it'll look great. It will generate more interest in Hyundai vehicles. I hope they keep the Elantra nose and not the overdone Veloster version.
But, it's not for me. The Veloster is already one door short for my needs.

Other rumor mill productions for this car say that it'll get the 1.6 Turbo of the Veloster and an LSD to compete against the Civic Si.
Again, this is from the rumor mill.

Hi Nevyn:
The rumor mill is talking about a 1.8L GDI as the std. engine and we shall soon see

And perhaps that 1.8L GDI may offer "42 Wild Italians", to quote the Cruze Eco commercial that aired during the Super Bowl earlier this year.

Are there any pictures of one of these beasts available yet? It could be a very interesting look. I wonder if they have plans to "sport it up" to compete for Civic Si buyers?

Re: 2012 Hyundai Elantra 2-Door Coupe – Same Great Taste, Less Filling
I'd like one with the 1.6 Turbo and suspension upgrades, but in 4-door form. Honda offers the Si in both 2- and 4-door. Actually, a 5-door would be even better.

Re: 2012 Hyundai Elantra 2-Door Coupe – Same Great Taste, Less Filling
Huh. To my eye it doesn't look that much different. I guess the 4-door is already pretty swoopy.
