2012 Hyundai Veloster three door sports coupe – A “hot” hatch featuring a 7” LCD with Hyundai’s BlueLink as standard equipment. Not only is it 40 mpgUS rated with the 6-speed stick, it starts at an affordable $17,300 and $18,550 for the 6-speed MT and 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) respectively.
If 2011 can be summed up in one word, it would have to be “
infotainment”. With a bevy of offerings from just about every manufacturer announced or released (other than Honda

), one of the better systems just so happens to come standard on the all-new 2012 Veloster.
Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system includes Pandora internet radio, Gracenote display technology with voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition, Blue Link Assurance with a six month trial period of free core safety services including Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) and Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Monthly Vehicle Report. And a whole lot more…
Veloster sales? In its first 30-days of availability, the Veloster has surpassed 3,000 units boding well for the upcoming Hyundai October sales report.
September 2011 sales saw a most manufacturers experience surprisingly good growth with only Toyota, Honda and Subaru experiencing declines. We are far enough beyond the Japan Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami supply disruptions to have an effect on sales so its sink or swim time for everybody. That said, November sales results for the Asian stalwarts will be telling.
Toyota again achieved notoriety as the manufacturer with the highest sales of any particular car as the Camry experienced sales of 24,851.
On the truck side, three big news items came from Ford. Ford total truck sales were up 15 percent compared to September of 2010, Ford truck sales experienced the best September for F-Series since 2007 and EcoBoost-equipped F-150s had their best-ever sales month with V6 engines (3.5L EcoBoost and the 3.7L) continuing to outsell V8s by a 57 to 43% percent margin.
LEAF and VOLT Watch
LEAF and Volt sales were both up. The LEAF sold 1,031, down 331 units from last month (sales waning?) and the Volt was up by a large percentage but small number as 723 vehicles were delivered in September, up 421 from August but not even a blip compared to overall sales. The Volt’s stable mate, the Cruze, again lead the compact segment with 18,097 vehicles sold. The all-new 2012 Civic has not been well received by reviewers and September sales of just 13,724 vehicles seems to indicate the consumer is looking elsewhere as well.
