Re: LEAF, Volt, Fisker, Tesla, PEV Watch

First Leaf and second Volt sightings, both from Westar Energy's fleet, parked side-by-side at Chili's on my walk to lunch today! Nice custom paint, both green and white and proclaiming their eco qualities. Both looked FINE. Wichita has arrived!

Re: LEAF, Volt, Fisker, Tesla, PEV Watch

I am driving a Leaf now, rented from Enterprise while my insurance co is deciding whether or not to declare total loss on my VW BioD Jetta. (*sniffle*). Today I took it from Sunnyvale to Santa Cruz. Looks like I could have round tripped it on one full charge, though I would needed a charging station badly. This bodes well for a CODA giving me the range I want and need for all but the rare medium or longer road trip. I do want to see what they have to say about that disappointing DOE rating and official range though. Well, it is going to be November before the 36kwh battery versions are ready anyway.

Dang, wish I had $80ish-k to blow on an 85kwh Tesla S. Hmmm..their 40kwh car is only $57400. . . . No! BAD Ori. . . .. Must. . . .send . . . son . . .to . . . college. . . . must. . . resist. . . lure. . . .

Re: LEAF, Volt, Fisker, Tesla, PEV Watch

That thing looked NICE! Saw him coming up on me fast in the mirrors and snapped that pic. Got out in the fast lane and took it up to 80mph (on a closed course, private property of course. professional driver, do not atempt at home and all that), and he was still pulling away. Then he shot over to the right lane and got off the ewy - m-14 and (iirc) Beck rd exit, might have been Sheldon Rd but I think it was Beck. In Plymouth MI.

One of the few joys of driving around metro Detroit. You get to see alot of test/manufacturer cars

Re: LEAF, Volt, Fisker, Tesla, PEV Watch

I saw a Fisker in the wild this morning!

It was low, lower than I expected. Low like a corvette. Looked good. Black.

Edit: 52 in tall, vs 49 in the 'vette. Longer, at 196 vs 174, so that makes it look lower in proportion.

Re: LEAF, Volt, Fisker, Tesla, PEV Watch

I saw my second Leaf last night while picking up my daughter from here job at a supermarket. They seem to be very rare in the UK.

Last year only 699 Leaf's were sold in the UK. This compares to range extenders like the Vauxhall Ampera (455) and Chevy Volt (67). I saw my first Ampera yesterday too - I thought it looked pretty good - shame it's only 4 seats and expensive!

Other electric car sales in the UK were 251 Peugeot iOn, 110 Citroen C-Zero's, 107 Mitsubishi i-MiEV's.
These sales are dwarfed by traditional cars like the Ford Fiesta with sales of 109,265 last year.
The Prius managed 99th place with sales of 5183 down 20% on 2011.

Re: LEAF, Volt, Fisker, Tesla, PEV Watch

A few BEV/Plug-in updates:

- I also saw a Fisker Karma last month, parked in front of a business less than a mile from my house. It was at night and I was biking. I wouldn't have noticed, except my eye caught words like "low emission vehicle" or something similar on the back. Which seemed incongruous to me, for what looked like an expensive luxury/sporty car. Then I saw "FISKER" on the back. Ahhh...

- Saw a C-Max Energi parked on the street yesterday.

- Think! EV sightings are pretty common around here, now that there's a local dealership. I see them at least once or twice a week.

- The Portland Tribune is reporting that Zipcar is going to be adding Honda Fit EVs to their local fleet. So far I haven't seen any of these on the street, just parked in front of Beaverton Honda, so this is a great development. The Zipcar website doesn't yet show any as available to rent, but I'll definitely taking one out when I have the chance.

- Also, another Leaf sighting, but one that is closer to home. Literally. My neighbors immediately behind me just bought a Leaf. Unlike me they do have a garage, but they still use it to house their Porsche. (No, I'm not kidding). They've had a 120V outlet installed on the front of the garage, and they sometimes charge while parked on the street. Most of the time they don't have it plugged in at all -- he works for a major semiconductor manufacturer, and I suspect he must have the ability to charge at work.
