Need another reason to consider Hyundai? Trade In Assurance

Apparently in May, Hyundai announced a guaranteed trade in allowance for their vehicles up to 48 months.

http://www.hyundaiusa.com/assurance/trade-value.aspx

This is AWESOME. I did some math and figured how much I would still owe on my vehicle at 48 months and with the trade in on my 2012 Accent being 49%, I will actually have about $2K in positive equity towards a new Hyundai. There doesnt appear to be any caveats like mileage or condition etc. and this should be a huge selling point to anyone interested in Hyundai. You know from day one what your car is going to be worth towards the end of your payment agreement (or anywhere in between, actually)

.....meanwhile, I did a segment today of about 85 miles city driving and managed to get 46mpg.

Re: Need another reason to consider Hyundai? Trade In Assurance

I checked the Hyundai website and see no mention (or maybe I just missed it) of the people (like me) who purchased their car before this promotion (in my case, January)?
If I do trade in <4 years and the "market value" is less than 49% of the MSRP on my old sticker, I'll hold out for AT LEAST that 49%.
The only reason I would trade that soon, is if the next redesign (not just interior/exterior, the powertrain would have to be better) is worth it to me AND the fact that I would be around $4,500 right side up with the 49% trade value.
Only time will tell...

Eh, its not every day thankfully! Doctors appointment and his office is way the hell over on the other side of town. Ever since Ive started watching my driving habits, trying to eek out as many mpg as I can, I really see what an a-hole Ive been on the road. I used to be the guy doing 20 over the SL and tailgating the slower guy in the little car wondering why the heck he is going so slow. Now that Im that guy, Im sure aware of others on the road and following some of the hypermiling techniques makes you more defensive in your driving. Im still impressed as hell that Im getting the mpg that I am. I think with a bit more practice, I can get into the low 50's.

Re: Need another reason to consider Hyundai? Trade In Assurance

So my car would be guaranteed to be worth $7140 after four years*. That's nice, and nearly half what I actually paid, but I'm confident that (even in a normal used-car market) at just 4 years and 50k miles it will be worth considerably more than that.

* If I had bought it one day later. I bought my car on April 30, and I believe I read somewhere else that the Trade-In Assurance program began May 1. I'm not too heartbroken about it (see above).

I dont know how well Hyundai holds its value outside of the Hyundai dealership and would be interested to know what the average trade in value would be. I know when I bought my Accent this past week, they gave me $6500 for my Dakota which was in excellent condition but had 91K miles. Thats a terrible amount IMO but I was unable to get any more.

I would love to be able to only put 50K on a car in 4 years but its just not possible for me with my commute. Ill be pretty close to the 100K mark and am already planning my trade in. Im hoping Hyundai will have an electric or more advanced hybrid by then.

Re: Need another reason to consider Hyundai? Trade In Assurance

Hyundai has not generally had a good record for resale, but the reason I'm not worried is because I have a wagon and I live in the Northwest. Used wagons always command a premium around here.

But in your case, if you're racking up lots of miles (and apparently the program doesn't care about the miles) then this will be just the ticket.
