Ford has SYNC, KIA has UVO, Hyundai has Blue Link and Toyota has Entune

Toyota’s Entune receives two Awards at the 2011 CES and will be standard equipment in the upcoming Prius v.

2012 Toyota Prius v is rated for 40 mpgUS combined – A sharp looking MPV with Prius written all over it will include Toyota's award winning Entune. We are not sure how the large fall off in FE occurred however?

At the just-concluded Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toyota’s Entune multimedia infotainment system won both a “Best of CES” award from CNET in the Car Tech category and Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award.

Toyota’s Entune is following in the footsteps of the other more widely known in car infotainment solutions with similar but different mobile application offerings including Bing, iheartradio, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable.com, and Pandora to select Toyota vehicles beginning later this year.

Entune features advanced voice recognition, intuitive in-vehicle controls and is compatible with a wide range of Smartphones. Toyota’s Entune brings personalized information and data services to the vehicle and is wirelessly upgradeable so the in-vehicle applications hopefully are never obsolete. We have heard that statement bantered about to many times when it comes to mobile infotainment unfortunately.

The first vehicle to offer Toyota Entune will be the all-new 2012 Prius v, the first in a new line of vehicles slated for the all-new Prius family. The Prius v will be the most spacious dedicated hybrid vehicle on the market, with 50 percent more cargo volume than the current Prius while rated at 40 mpgUS combined on the 08 EPA. The new Prius will also offer Safety Connect, which provides Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Roadside Assistance. Safety Connect combined with Toyota Entune offers comprehensive safety services and mobile applications not found in any other vehicle make. Prius v will go on sale in late summer of 2011.

Toyota Entune also includes location-based services, such as personalized traffic, fuel prices, stocks, weather, and sports. These are combined with a fully featured entertainment and communication system, which includes XM radio, HD Radio, CD player, USB connectivity, Bluetooth streaming and phonebook. A JBL sound system is available as an option as well although if past JBL systems are any indication; this one will not be a match for the current state of the art as an in-vehicle listening environment.

In any case, Toyota is catching up and with their well known attention to detail, Entune will hopefully be as solid offering as their current vehicle lineup.

How much will this add to the MSRP? Is this Prius V going to be premium priced?

Hi NoFlash:

We do not know yet but I suspect it will be a hefty addition for that extra 60% of cargo space and loss of 20% of the Prius’ FE

Re: Ford has SYNC, KIA has UVO, Hyundai has Blue Link and Toyota has Entune

I knew it would happen. They're all on the upsell. I guess they're worried it'll eat up some of their larger vehicle margins.

My only hope is that it proves popular enough they'll offer a Prius II equivalent. Some of us don't want all the extra crap.

Oh, well, 40mpg is still class-leading. Besides, it might just mean hypermilers will be more hyper.
