http://www.fiatusa.com/en/build_your_own.html
$15,500 plus destination, which i would guess to be 7-$800.
Go with the 6 speed automatic and you are over 17 grand
I was hoping for a 12-13K start, but i guess i knew that wasn't going to happen.

I think I'd buy an Elantra for that money.

Though I agree that the price should have started out lower, they still cost lower than the Fiesta hatch and mini however. That said, it might be priced out of the hands of a lot of people who were interested. This does make them less competitive.

Re: Looks like the Fiat 500 is going to start over $16K
Right now, there exists a number of great choices in that 15-17K price range.
I can buy a Corolla LE for $16K. An Elantra is even less than that. You can get a Fit in that range. A Yaris for a little less. I think the 500 is cool, but it's about $2K higher than the max i would be willing to pay for it.
Shame.

If the dollar and the Euro were at parity, we would be looking at a $12,500 Fiat 500.

Re: Looks like the Fiat 500 is going to start over $16K
I think $11K to $12K would be the ballpark for a decent price. I agree there is much more to offer in several other models and brands for $16K.

How's it compare to the Mini Cooper in terms of quirkiness, equipment, and price?

Re: Looks like the Fiat 500 is going to start over $16K
If you compare the 500 to an Elantra or Corolla-type car, you are not the target market for the car.
The car's only real competitor is the MINI.

You are correct. It is most definitely not in my market segment / I in its market segment.
One of my major criteria for vehicles is practicality. I don't fancy paying extra for style without substance, especially if it also means less practicality. My car is a tool, not a fashion accessory.
