Heck, you could charge admission for an up close look at a wind farm. They are really cool looking-alien looking at night.
At night, in thunderstorms with lightening strobing-they are downright spooky! Sell tickets to them!

Re: "UnBell the Wind Turbines?"
ELECTION UPDATE: Union County, OR, just voted (in a non-binding referendum) 52-48% AGAINST a proposed new wind farm:

Re: "UnBell the Wind Turbines?"
To my mind, that's a poorly worded poll question. Our population is growing and our per capita energy demands are increasing at a crazy rate. It's not a matter of IF extra power supply is needed, but what form it will take. The question should have asked WHICH form of power generation is preferred. (NIMBY is not one of the choices)

Re: "UnBell the Wind Turbines?"
Hi Andrew:
I agree. Hydro is tapped and solar is too expensive. Let alone a day time use (when the sun shines) thing anyway. That leaves Coal, NG and Nukes... If you have ever heard a NG plant turbine spinning up, I would much prefer the woosh woosh of a wind turbine vs. that drone anywhere near me all day and night long.
It is only a matter of time when those same voters can decide they do not need power for a few hours per day or live with an environmentally irresponsible or responsible method of “keeping the lights on”
Wayne

Re: "UnBell the Wind Turbines?"
My understanding is this ballot measure was framed as, "Do you approve of your irresponsible federal and state gubmints spending your tax dollars to build these things with blinky red lights in your backyard?" No surprise the answer you'll get if you ask a question like that in eastern Oregon.

To me no doubt. One month ago I thought I would be able to tour the inside of the large wind turbine at our local high school by tagging along with my wife and a bunch of other physics teachers. The tour fell through because the company doing turbine O&M removed needed safety gear so they could prevent the tour.
To me it looks like the wind turbine industry is piling up inventory because demand has slackened. Next time Wayne drives by Davenport, IA, on the way to Iowa City, I can give him directions to a photo op at the large wind turbine construction staging yard at the former Caterpillar plant that's located about 3 miles off I-80. ( BTW...It's not my photo op because the property owner is a client.) Last time I was there they probably had two or three hundred blades parked there.

Right. They had a specific response in mind when they asked. That the 48% still voted in favor could be read as a resounding YES vote.
