Re: Learned to drive stick, I want an insight now.
OK as much as I hate ebay I setup a search to notify me of new listings for Insights. My question is what model year is the best to get? If I recall there were some changes during the years that was either a plus or minus. I think it was 2004 or 2005 they changed something and the car got worse mileage? Its been so long since I researched the car I just dont remember.
If I can find a good deal and I can get a good loan with very low payments I might just go ahead and get one.
I'll also be checking out Insight Central for postings when I'm ready to buy.

Jay, I think you may be referring to the end of the 5MT after the '05 model year. Also, I believe that after a certain year, the CalPod(sp?) switch didn't work. Sean, I may need to have you go over with me the details on disabling the pack sometime; how to do it and pros and cons.

Re: Learned to drive stick, I want an insight now.
I thought the 5MT was still available for the 06.
I think the switch is what I remember now that I think about it.
Since I cant get a new Insight I wont mind getting an older version as long as it would be better for playing with. Like the CalPod and MIMA.

There are some deals out there. I got my '00 with a replaced pack (2 months prior) and a lmpg of 62+ and 101K miles in May for $7500.

Re: Learned to drive stick, I want an insight now.
Jay, 2004 is the last year either the Insight 5MT or the HCH-I 5MT can use the simple Calpod switch (clutch switch bypass to "disable" IMA). MIMA doesn't care what year and can be used to disable in the Insight all the way through the end of the production ('06).

Re: Learned to drive stick, I want an insight now.
If you intend to install MIMA and your objective is to disable assist and regen... yes.
If you want to do this with a very simple to install bridge circuit (basically shorting a switch) -- get a 2000-2004 model year.
