New CAFE standards proposed

...by an unlikely senator?

http://commerce.senate.gov/public/in...th=1&Year=2007

Perhaps someone better at reading legalspeak could determine if this is smoke and mirrors. But Ted Stevens, I mean really!

Re: New CAFE standards proposed

Hi Doug:

___Nice find!

___Interesting and coming from a Republican with a record for pork and spend as well as consumption directives like the world has never seen before? There is a lot of weasel words in that press release but what if everyone where to drive reasonably priced Prius II’s and HCH-II’s today? Even non-hybrid Civic’s, Corolla’s, Fit’s, Yaris’ and TCH’s come close and there is no real technology magic in any of those auto’s other then the TCH? It would push the domestics into producing fuel-efficient hybrids ansd non-hybrids worth purchasing as well. If they can bring about 25 + mpg monster GM SUV’s or better yet, PHEV-20 capable hybrids w/ DualMode soon (08 VUE GL w/ DualMode and PHEV capable), I don’t see how 40 + is even a bump in the road?

___Why are we waiting other then the domestic auto industry going straight into bankruptcy because they do not offer anything this fuel efficient here in the US today

___On a non-related note, I saw Wayne Brown mention something about Andy Roberts having some medical condition in the PTS forum a few months ago but did not go into any specifics. Is there an update you can provide?

___Good Luck

___Wayne

Re: New CAFE standards proposed

The report on Andy Roberts is not entirely optimistic I'm afraid. Perhaps out of place in this thread but it can be a start. 31 October 2006 diagnosis of myeloma bone cancer. Aggressively treated, but he is now in a rehab center in VA with dialysis for partial or total loss of kidney function, and a few other unrelated issues.

There is a page for him, for posting messages etc, at

www.carepages.com

One signs up and searches for Andy's name.
