The asking price seems a bit low for a dealer asking price.
I wonder why they aren't asking $14000 or so?

If you get the VIN, you should be able to see the toyota history on the toyota website.

Checking Autotrader it looks like there is a glut of used gen 2 Prius's right now. Used prices look similar to those of the Matrix. The deal is reasonable, but I think your friend has room to bargain.

The Carfax looks good on it. It shows the service records, one owner, and consistent mileage. It looks like they really want to move it. Pic looks like there is staining on the drivers carpet. I would look at it and if it looks decent, offer $10k for it.
