Video is not the British PSA, but an actual heartbreaking texting death
Phillipa Curtis, 22 serves 21 months for "death by dangerous driving" - banned from driving for three years. Killed was Victoria McBryde, 24 - an upcoming fashion designer. McBryde's car had broken down and Curtis rearended her going 70.
Elisabeth Rosenthal - NYTIMES - Nov 1, 2009
See the video - nothing graphic...just very tragic and absolutely avoidable. --Ed.
Ms. Curtis had plowed her Peugeot into the rear end of Ms. McBryde’s neon yellow Fiat, which had broken down on the A40 Motorway, killing Ms. McBryde, 24, instantly.
The crash might once have been written off as a tragic accident. Ms. Curtis’s alcohol level was zero. But her phone, which had flown onto the road and was handed to the police by a witness, told a story that — under new British sentencing guidelines — would send its owner to jail.
In the hour before the crash, she had exchanged nearly two dozen messages with at least five friends, most concerning her encounter with a celebrity singer she had served at the restaurant where she worked.... [Read More]

Re: Video is not the British PSA, but an actual heartbreaking texting death
I was run off the road a few days ago by a young lady in a mitsubishi galant. We were both heading in the same direction next to each other on a two lane bi-directional street when she decided she wanted to be in the exact spot I was in at the exact same moment! I was in the right lane and swerved right to avoid an accident and like hybrids I hit the 4 inch "kerb" pretty hard. I checked to make sure my car was ok, which it was. I got back in and she apparently saw what happened so she slowed down and we both pulled over. She apologized however I told her I was ok.
People just really need to be more aware of what is going on around them.

Re: Video is not the British PSA, but an actual heartbreaking texting death
I know what some are going to say, but system exist to make sure eyes stay open and looking in the right direction. The only use I know of are on some passenger trains/subways, but I'd love to see them on cars. Your eyes drop while in motion for more than a few seconds and your car alarms (and logs), and if they stay dropped you might find your max speed cut to just a few miles per hour or nothing.
