Prius drivers: What? - Me worry?

They are dismissive about the recall concerns.

Patrick May - VICTORIAADVOCATE - Apr 22, 2010

It's obvious they don't believe the media's fear, uncertainty, doubt. --Ed.

...''I'd heard about the braking problems, but the media report on car crashes, not the cars that do fine," said the 60-year-old schoolteacher with the black 2010 Prius II in front of her Redwood City, Calif., home. "And the ones that crash are an extremely small percentage. Now that Toyota has had its feet held to the fire, it's very unlikely they'll do anything stupid like this for a long time."

Today, as the automotive industry turns a corner of its own, the iconic hybrid is experiencing a sort of spring awakening. It's back despite Toyota's missteps and thanks to juicy incentives, amped-up production, and a fan base that Stanford University marketing professor Baba Shiv calls "evangelical."

Prius buyers aren't just buying the car, he says. They're buying into it.... [Read More]

Re: Prius drivers: What? - Me worry?

Shame they didn't find anyone who said "A problem causing unintended acceleration hasn't been identified and all incidents can be explained by malice or pressing the wrong pedal. The supposed brake problem was just ABS behavior and is easily handled. And if something did go wrong I'd know what to do. If the subcompact Insight isn't big enough for you it's the best value hybrid. I'm not a blinkered idiot and I knew about the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Civic Hybrid but they both cost more than the Prius and I wasn't prepared to pay that much."

Re: Prius drivers: What? - Me worry?

Well, to be fair a problem causing unintended acceleration HAS been identified: the floormats. But mostly I agree with you.

And of course most of the floormats have been taken care of by now, and in any case it's not quite the danger that it is on, say a Lexus ES, because the Prius' brakes are 3x more powerful than its engine.

Re: Prius drivers: What? - Me worry?

Hi All:

___Regarding the Prius that was available when this all came out (the 2010), they did not have non-anchored floor mats and only needed a SW update to change the feel of the brakes while at a slow speed and decelerating.

___Good Luck

___Wayne
