A Timeline of global recalls in the auto industry

By the numbers, Toyota's recall is about #5

REUTERS - Mar 2, 2010

Corvair would have figured prominently had there been recalls in the 1960s. --Ed.

General Motors Co [GM.UL] is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.

Here are some details about previous major auto recalls:

1981 - GM recalled 5.8 million vehicles due to loose suspension bolts that affected steering.

1996 - Ford Motor Co (F.N) recalled more than 8 million vehicles to replace defective ignition switches.... [Read More]

Re: A Timeline of global recalls in the auto industry

Hi Chuck:

___Yes indeed. While I follow the recall list pretty closely the past 4 to 5-months, many are minor nuances like door stickers or manual changes but some are truly meant to fix a problem that could harm people and the big ones that come to mind is the Corvair – Unsafe at any speed, Ford Crown Vic rear axle bolt going into the gas tank curing a rear ender, the Pinto exploding on a rear ender, the Explorers Firestone tires at too low a pressure causing the rollovers, the Audi 5000 SA due to pedal proximity and now the Toyota everything. The latter (Toyota) causing probably the least harm but quite a bit of commotion in any case.

___Good Luck

___Wayne
