Drivers reported sudden acceleration as they depressed the brake pedal, shifted the transmission or drove at higher speeds using cruise control.

The federal government is investigating reports that some Toyota Camry, Camry Solara and Lexus ES300 vehicles have surged forward without apparent reason, injuring at least five people. Toyota Motor confirmed the investigation Tuesday.

This article originally from the Wall Street Journal (Link) provides more details about the timeline of the investigations. NHTSA does not appear to have had Toyota's full co-operation.
