Day before Thanksgiving I got the computer bug and
bought this. This difference in the minimum config is the hard drive is 250GB and it has a modem. I hope it will not only do Windows Vista effortlessly, but the version after that.
It may be that a better system could be found - I've been told to have someone build one from scratch.
The transition between the computers will be slow to avoid the new one crawling within six months. There are a lot of suspects in what makes my computers crawl:
- I've always loaded a lot of apps (I've got a big system tray)
- I'm running Norton, and it has a reputation for being a control freak and possibly slowing things down. Maybe I can tweak it up better...
- Spyware may be slowing it down
Anyway, I want to scrutinize what is running and keep it to the essentials. Once everything is off the old computer, I might try linux.
Scary thing about my old computer - Windows will semi-load, but the desktop icons don't load - have to hard boot.
If this was a car, it's like it's got 500 pounds of barbells in the trunk.
