2011 Toyota Prius III wagon?
Li-Ion equipped model is larger but uses the Prius moniker.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Nov. 13, 2009
2010 Prius-III - $22,400 to start and 50 mpgUS combined.
Late 2010 could see something wagon fans will truly enjoy
Toyota plans a larger Prius 'wagon' equipped with a smaller and lighter Li-Ion battery.
According to the Yomiuri, Toyota is planning a wagon or small SUV variant of the 2010 Prius-III.
The new 2011 Prius Wagon/SUV was reported to go on sale in late 2010 and cost $22,000, essentially the same as the current Prius-III.
Did the popular Jetta Sportwagen TDI move Toyota to consider a fuel efficient hybrid wagon?

Re: 2011 Toyota Prius III wagon?
How will Toyota sell a Prius Wagon with Li-Ion at the same price and still make profit? Doesn't make sense. Unless it's made in US.

It is not a plug in though. Could be interesting. This sounds like this is the first of may Prius variants or the Prius "brand" vehicles that they were talking about a year ago or so ago.

Re: 2011 Toyota Prius III wagon?
I'm listening too. One reason the Prius doesn't fit my needs is the compact-size back seat. If they add a few inches to head and leg room and square off the rear end for carrying bigger boxes, and can maintain anywhere near the FE of the current car, it'd be the perfect replacement for what I have now.

Hm. The back seat seemed plenty large for me when I sat in it last January?
I might be misremembering slightly though.

The back seat is a little snug but you fit in there. What I found is that you have to duck & scrunch a little to get in there. Since I prefer to drive whenever I am going places with others, I like to have space available for whoever is coming along. For my mom (in her 60s) or my wife (with a back injury), the entry/exit to the rear seat - even for these smaller people - involves some maneuvers that are reaching the limits of these passengers. My current car as a tall roofline, large rear door openings, and lots of room to stretch and get comfortable when you need to move around on longer drives. With larger door openings (hopefully a few more inches of wheelbase) and the taller roofline of a Prius wagon would be just what's needed for my chauffering work.

Re: 2011 Toyota Prius III wagon?
One thing that I would love to see is a hybrid minivan. Or something like a Hybrid Mazda5, which I just bought for my wife. It seats SIX! And it gets pretty good mileage, but if it was a hybrid, we'd have a winner in my book.

Ah — I understand. Thanks for explaining! You're right — a bigger back seat and doors would be an improvement for your situation.
