I wonder when Hyundai will add DFCO to its engines. Maybe then its engine technology will be up to par with the competition from Honda, Toyota, and Nissan.

Re: Hyundai’s latest Elantra Blue falls just short of the Corolla
Drove a 2009 Elantra for 960 miles in the past 10 days. It was rented in MSP with 12K+ on the odometer.
A very reasonable and comfortable ride. Averaged 37.92 mpg overall, calculated. Best leg 350 mile leg was 42.6 as per SGII.
I didn't check the tire pressure so it could have been a easy couple of more. (It was raining hard for 100 of the miles and I seemed to have a near perpetual headwind.)
Good sounding XM but no mpg computer.

Ya know... they actually did have it in their older cars. If I let off the gas in the 99, especially going over a rise or when doing at least 60mph, my car will go into fuel cut. The instantaneous goes to 9999 and it goes into open loop... so I'm not just seeing things .

Re: Hyundai’s latest Elantra Blue falls just short of the Corolla
My old 99 Elantra 5-speed slowed pretty darned quickly whenever I lifted from the gas pedal. Gear choice didn't matter, nor did speed. Although slowing from 70+ (back in my younger days) down to 60 was almost whiplash-inducing if I let off the gas completely.
So that generation of the Beta engine had fuel cutoff. I guess they eliminated it when they went to variable exhaust valve timing on the late '03's onwards.

I don't have it on my '02.

Odd.
My car goes open loop on long downhills when I'm at zero throttle and over 1200 RPM or so.
I'm not getting DFCO from that?
On edit: Actually, seems like it goes open loop at any RPM above 1000 RPM. Never seen it happen in 1st, though I don't exactly experiment.

Re: Hyundai’s latest Elantra Blue falls just short of the Corolla
The 09 Elantra I drove last week would do the 9999 on the SG2 mpg during some coasting events. I had the SG in factory default. Putting the car in neutral greatly improved the coasting range vs decelerating in "D". It was a pretty easy car to DWB after just a few miles behind the wheel.
