Clutch repair question
Thought I was going to replace my clutch this weekend, got the parts except the official service manual calls for Super High Temperature Urea grease. The guy at the parts store had never heard of it so I did some research online and found it is a Honda made grease specific to their transmissions. I even found a technical bulletin about proper lubricants and such to use and it was very specific that this grease should be used because the Honda engineers say so, basically. So I call my local Honda dealer this morning who doesn't carry it and then the three other dealers that are somewhat in my area, none of them have it. I then call the service department to ask what their techs use since they obviously don't have this grease. The tech says to use molly lube or axle grease. So I was wondering if any of you Honda guys know if it is necessary to use the Honda grease. Does it make a difference? I can get it online but, obviously I wouldn't be able to do the repair this weekend. This is fine because the transmission works poperly, I just think the release bearing is wearing out and I wanted to do the repair before it gets cold and the bearing gets to the point where I have to replace it.
It would also appear that if you take your car to any Honda dealership in northwest Ohio for a clutch repair the dealer is not going to follow the directions of the official service manual because they don't seem to have the appropriate grease, which is generally why you go to the dealership for service: so they do it the right way.

Re: Clutch repair question
I agree with you, the dealership should be following the FSM/TSB's. However I also find that most dealers do as they please and get away with it b/c 99.999% of customers don't know the difference. Personaly a Urea grease is a lot different than a generic Wheel bearing grease. the only Urea I know of is Lucas Xtra HD bearing grease which is green, and a urea base. I can pick that up at Advance Auto in a tube or small tub. When the time comes to do the clutch on my honda... I'll be using the hoda or Lucas urea grease per TSB. hence why I do my own work. I'd look into the cost of just ordeirng the stuff from a local dealer, buying it online vs a tube of Lucas at AAP. Go from there. Just remember Urea grease is highly UNCOMPATIBLE with other greases such as most chasis/wheel bearing greases.

Re: Clutch repair question
Thanks for the reply FLaccord, I ordered the official grease from a Honda dealership online. One of the more frustrating things about the whole ordeal is that of the four parts departments I called, not one offered to order the grease for me. This is the type of thing that made me decide to work on my own car in the first place.

Re: Clutch repair question
...yup. most dealers are home of the "tards". most don't understand cars or anything car related. They got hired b/c they have "sales" backgrounds.

Re: Clutch repair question
That seems to be the case with most businesses I deal with, no one knows anything and they really don't act like they want your business in the first place.

Re: Clutch repair question
....yup. Car dealers, Home Depot, Lowes, hell even McDonalds. Zero understanding of what you're selling, they just train how to sell more of it. IE "related item sales". Go in for a roll of duct tape and come out with a cart full of **** if you listen to them.
