Toyota shows off the 2011 Prius-III PHEV and Auris (Corolla) Hatch w/ HSD

Toyota’s European blitzkrieg beginning early in Frankfurt.

Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Sept. 1, 2009

World Premiere of the 2010 Prius Plug-in Hybrid and Auris HSD Hybrid Concepts.

The first Toyota highlight for the Frankfurt Motor Show will be the World Premiere of the
Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept. This represents a milestone in Toyota’s strategy:

Introducing Toyota’s full hybrid technology to a mainstream model, and the first step in the deployment of Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) across the company’s model range.

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept will also make its World debut in Frankfurt. Prius Plug-in Hybrid expands the capabilities of Toyota’s full hybrid technology (HSD), enabling pure electric operation for short-range day-to-day transportation.

In early 2010, an extensive field trial in Europe will see over 150 units being leased to selected fleet customers.

2011 Toyota Hybrid with HSD

Possibly the most fuel efficient vehicle (BEVs need not apply) in the world

The Plug-in hybrid race is afoot! And the race to dominance of the compact, sub-$20k hybrid market begins. Altogether, very exciting. News like this makes me wish I could have put off my car purchase another year or two...

Hoo boy!! I can't wait to see what that Auris HSD can do!

I anxiously await EV spec's on the PHEV Prius, too. What's the range? How about top EV speed? More info, please!!

I love the top speed!

So... who's going to make a booster pack for this puppy first?
