$224k Speeding ticket
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?...yhoo&type=lgns
INDIANAPOLIS There was no police officer to flirt with, no traffic court to appeal to, no way out of what was essentially a $224,000 speeding ticket. So Juan Pablo Montoya, frustration boiling over at committing an all-timer of a racing gaffe, vented by going nuts over his teams radio.
With an indomitable car and a huge lead in the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, Montoya got nabbed for speeding on pit road by a meager .11 mph this in a car that can go 200. He was penalized by NASCAR so late in the race that a near certain victory Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was gone.
Drivers are allowed to go 55 mph on Indys pit road but are given a 5 mph cushion, essentially making the speed limit 60 mph. In the second of eight timed segments on pit road, Montoya was caught going 60.06 mph. In the fourth segment he went 60.11.

Re: $224k Speeding ticket
Yes, I am heartless.
He broke the 55 mph speed limit, he deserves the punishment.
Just because the enforcement cushoin is there doesn't mean you should use it.

Re: $224k Speeding ticket
He was more that 10% over the pit speed limit. Thems the rules and he broke them. He took a chance and he lost. Boo hoo for him.

I'm with Taliesin -- it's the same attitude as that found on public roads. "Cushions" are not excuses.

Re: $224k Speeding ticket
rules are rules.
You breakthem you pay the concequences.
This goes right to the Speeding Camera issues as well.
the "system" detected a violation and it did its job.
So if it is good enough for AUTORACING - why would it not be good enough for everyone else?

Re: $224k Speeding ticket
