Californian hydrogen highway to build new refuelling stations
Californian hydrogen

refuelling stations

The Californian Hydrogen Highway Network has announced the awarding of new contracts for the development and supply of hydrogen refuelling stations and hydrogen-powered cars.
Under the new plans, three new demonstration hydrogen refuelling stations will be established along the highway, while vehicles from Ford, General Motors (GM) and Quantum will be leased to promote the use of hydrogen as a transportation fuel.
The new refuelling stations will demonstrate a variety of hydrogen production methods, with two electrolyser stations one utilising wind power and the other solar power planned, while the third will use steam methane reformation.
It is expected that the cars, including new hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from GM, will be used as part of government or university fleets.
The news follows the announcement that the hydrogen highway is to receive a total of $6.5 million (£3.48 million) worth of funding in California's fiscal year 2007/08 state budget, with further refuelling stations and a hydrogen bus network planned.
