Canaccord Adams initiates coverage on Altair Nanotechnologies (Nasdaq: ALTI) with a Buy rating and $4.50 price target. Analyst, Avinash Kant, said, "Given the current state of technology, we believe electric vehicles are not ready to hit the road for the masses. However, with stringent environmental regulations (especially in California) and Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) credits, we do see a niche market developing for electric vehicles in fleet operations where vehicles run a fixed route and long-term operational cost is a key factor."
Kant notes that Altairnano received a $750,000 battery order from Phoenix Motorcars in July and they expect significant follow-on orders by early 2007
