WEST PALM BEACH If you thought hybrid cars were solely a fashion statement for patchouli-scented idealists, think again.
One West Palm Beach auto dealer is betting that Fisker Automotive's new $87,900 vehicle will attract the same buyers who now tool around in BMW 750s and Jaguar sedans.
"It's a plush luxury car," says Ryan Moore, Fisker brand manager for Palm Beach Motor Cars in West Palm Beach. "It's the perfect car for the socialites on the island."
Moore even has a word for it: "eco-chic."
Fisker, based in Irvine, Calif., recently designated Palm Beach Motor Cars as one of its 32 dealers nationwide.
Palm Beach Motor Cars, which also sells Aston Martin, Land Rover, Lotus and Jaguar vehicles, so far is the only Fisker dealer between Miami and Orlando.
The Fisker Karma is a so-called plug-in hybrid, meaning it runs on a battery that's charged with a power cord.
