Hypermiling a...
... Hummer H2! I thought it was hilarious that they actually tried, and it looks like it works. I didn't know that the H2 was flat-towable.

Re: Hypermiling a...
That was a complete waste. Driving a hummer regardless with just you in there, never sends a good message, and you're getting terrible mileage while doing it.
Driving the mini like a deranged maniac is even worse. That article left me disgusted.

Re: Hypermiling a...
Well spotted jhu. But i fear it's real purpose is to "entertain" the sheeple and also leave the subconscious message in their little heads that "hypermiling is a waste of time. Be a real man and drive a hummer" Trust me, it works for the less educated. They are the majority and the number is growing. Be afraid....very
ollie
ps. did anyone go to the forum linked on the page? here: http://forums.motivemag.com/zerothread?id=3932466
Man we are facing an uphill battle here. Whats the alternative? Go out and floor every vehicle we drive and melt clutches 'cos it's manly? It's f***ing neanderthal, thats what it is. Thats it, i'm going to research who these websites are linked to and who pays their wages. I may be some time....

I agree to some extent. It also proves that the guy who did this is a very inexperienced "hypermiler" and bases his behavior off the inexplicably flawed stereotypes that are perpetuated by the media. I think his driving the mini in the way he did DOES prove one important point though: driving style does indeed have a tremendous impact on fuel efficiency.
Though, If he did want to burn as much gas as possible, I *think* redlining it in first on the highway at 30 MPH would burn more gas than even doing 85 or 90 in 3rd at redline. Also, ho could have used his left foot to dive into the brake while accelerating, to further increase resistance, poured racing 30W70 oil into the engine, dropped the tire pressure to 15 PSI. And, the easiest way would have been to leave his car on for a few hours while eating lunch or something.
Of course, his assertion that hypermiling is more "sinful" than passing every car on the road, redlining the engine at every shift(though he should have never went past 3rd), and burning up his brake pads in 10 miles is completely ludicrous and ignorant.

Driving fast, while still dangerous, fuel-swilling, and illegal, doesn't impact other drivers (so long as you don't hit them).

That quote is worthy of a JOTD. How does tailgating, cutting people off, revving for no reason NOT impact other drivers?

Re: Hypermiling a...
This site is becoming like a Vulcan Mind Meld or something to me....yesterday I got inspired by Charlie in NO (I'll leave that a semi-mystery).
Today I hypermilied a Ford 350 and got 15mpg....did a FAS down the I35E to I635 eastbound mixmaster during rush hour.
Maybe not all that impressive, but still beat that H2's butt.

Yes, but you're a seasoned hypermiler whereas that H2 driver wasn't. Also, was that truck an automatic or manual?
