From an Environmental standpoint, avoiding this one meat makes you 78% like a Vegan

Beef consumption has 4x the emission of pork and 10x the emissions of poultry

Environmental Leader - Feb. 17, 2009

So maybe it's easy to make an impact with your diet. -- Ed.

When it comes to global warming, Hamburgers are the Hummers of food. That’s because beef is an inefficient food to produce and cows release a large amount of methane into the atmosphere, according to Nathan Pelletier of Dalhousie University in Canada, AP reports.

Although beef only accounts for 30 percent of meat consumption in the developed world, it’s responsible for 78 percent of the emissions. A single kilogram of beef produces 16 kilograms CO2 equivalent emissions: four times higher than pork and more than ten times more than a kilogram of poultry, said Pelletier.... [Read More]

Interesting. This makes my preference for fish and poultry a benefit?

The green choices aren't easy.

Now we must decide if Orange Juice is out too.

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009...e-is-worse.php

If it isn't organic, farmed without machines, and delivered to the market on foot or bike it's probably bad.

Avoiding beef can only make you 78% like a veg if there is zero footprint in vegetables, which of course is impossible.

I already prefer chicken, but I like a burger or a steak every now and then. I already knew about the cows producing methane gas so I cut back a long time ago.

Beef?

I have it about once every day or two. What would I replace it with? How about sheep products? They didn't mention them in the article.

My question is... Why didn't they publish the results for sheep in the article as well? It's much worse than beef.

One sheep produces enough methane to power your car for 8 miles per day (15 to 20 or more for some of the drivers here).

Methane from animals is a natural process. Earth can handle that emission. We should be worrying more about coal and oil.

FOOD GROSS OUT WARNING BELOW

Besides I like steak, and fish and seafood and chicken and vegetables, I don't care if they all fart before I eat them. I'll eat anything but sea urchin, it was soooo bad I ate it again to see if it was just a singularly awful event. It wasn't any better. There will not be a third attempt.
Oh and no more 100 year eggs for me (rotted fermented baby duckling with half formed bill and feet with tiny feathers and visible blood veins in a shell) Mmmmm Mmmmm Gag! - Dale

Once you've had a Royal Red Robin burger you can never so goodbye to beef!

2 slabs of beef, 4 strips of bacon, 2 fried eggs, plenty of grease, and enough calories for half a week. Yum yum!

Or in my case, enough calories for half a day...

Yeah, I eat quite a bit and still weigh less than 130#.
